Last week I took a trip down to Spitalfields market in east London to see the D&AD New Blood exhibition. I didn’t know what to expect but I was excited.
At 11 am the place was buzzing with people, mostly young creatives like myself. I sat in on a talk ‘Play in Progress’ which spoke about making your mark – your work should reflect you and not what you think they want you to come up with. I also visited the One Minute Brief and Young Creative Council stands. YCC had a 48 hour brief and a jobsboard with a few design intern posts which caught my eye. I also spoke to a tutor of an advertising and design course who was very helpful and gave me some pointers on how to get my foot in the door to the world of advertising. D&AD had various workshops (Fringe Events) running alongside the exhibition held by different creative companies; Q&A’s, mask making, portfolio reviews, studio tours and briefs to get your creative juices flowing.
I’m looking forward to completing and submitting a brief in next year’s New Blood Awards.
For now I’m getting my head down and upgrading my portfolio.
